CoffeeShop 101: Stretching Your Images!

>> Wednesday, March 31, 2010

There are times you want to force your images to fit certain spaces that aren't your standard 4x6 ratio. For example, I wanted to use the image above in a header, but if I tried to fit it in a long rectangle, once I cropped it down to taste I would have an excess of white space.  Luckily with the magic of Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, there is a very simple fix.  :-)

Glossy Lips Tutorial

Let's say your model comes and doesn't have gloss, so when you photograph her, her lips are flat or matte. Or even say you're outdoors and you don't want your model's hair sticking to her lips, you can fix the "gloss" problem in post. It is so easy, even a caveman can do it :)

I know, bad joke haha.

Ok first you start with your edited image that you want to add the glossy lips to. Then duplicate.

CoffeeShop 101: Quick and Easy Editing: Edit JPGS in ACR in PSE or CS!

>> Sunday, March 21, 2010

This is a fun tip to quickly edit a jpg using the Adobe Camera RAW (ACR) in Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. ACR is the RAW editor for both programs (ACR is somewhat limited in PSE, but still a great way to edit RAWs, especially if you want to batch edit).

However you might not be aware that you can also open and edit jpgs in ACR. This is a great method to quickly edit white balance, make a B&W, or even make some quick and special enhancements!

Coffee With Morgan: You Don't Need a Portait to Use the Perfect Portrait Action!

>> Thursday, March 18, 2010

I have been itching to take pictures of hubby's new bike, so yesterday he finally cleaned it up really nice and moved it out back just before sunset so I could get some shots. I am loving them! He told me he wanted just one "normal" shot (because I like getting different, more abstract shots of inanimate objects).

CoffeeShop Blogger UnWrapped: Slideshow Headers!

>> Tuesday, March 16, 2010

I wanted to thank you for your incredible support on my homeschooling post! Thank you so much for all of the advice, helpful links and your own personal stories. I am so inspired and excited to educate my own children and now I have even more resources thanks to you. I am so fortunate to live in a country which allows me the freedom to decide how to educate my own children.

And check out these textures by Jerry! Jerry, I don't know how you do it, but you continue to amaze and delight me. :-)

As promised, today I am going to post something technical. :) I get so many emails asking me how I make slideshow headers.

Homeschooling.

Coffee With Morgan: Editing Newborn Images

>> Thursday, March 11, 2010

I am thrilled once again to have Morgan post a tutorial here at CoffeeShop. This is a retouching tutorial using the free CoffeeShop Baby PowderRoom action. Thank you so much Morgan, I had never thought about gaussian blurring brush strokes, that is brilliant! And you have so many tips that are completely new to me. :-)

Morgan has agreed to become a regular contributor her, and her posts will be called "Coffee With Morgan". I am so excited to welcome her, and I think her skills as a professional photographer AND editing wizard will really add some exciting new blood to CoffeeShop. ;-) If there are any editing enhancement, photography, or photography business questions you might want to ask her, please comment below! She might be able to answer them in a future post.

I get asked if I have any tips for editing newborns quite a bit, so here is what I do to make those adorable little ones into a beautiful portrait :)

Coffee With Morgan: Making Eyes "Pop"

>> Thursday, March 4, 2010

I am really excited to be introducing you to a fellow Texan, mom of two, and gifted photographer and photo-editor; Morgan Kervin. Morgan lives in Central Texas (Fort Hood/Killeen area where my lil' sis Heather lived for some years) and is a professional photographer. I actually "met" her in my Flickr CoffeeShop Group. This thread made me realize she knew more than me (like most of the people who post over there...), so I mentioned I would love for her to be a guest on my blog and guess what, she said YES!

So I am thrilled to be posting her first "of what I hope becomes many" tutorial on enhancing brown eyes. This tutorial will work in Photoshop and Photoshop Elements. I get many emails asking for advice on how to make brown eyes "pop", and Morgan's technique is excellent.

Morgan's bio is at the end of this post and please check out all of her links. She is a very gifted photographer AND simply adorable. ;-)

I think the eyes are the most important part of a portrait and I have the most trouble with brown eye detail. After a lot of experimenting I found a great way to showcase those lovely brown eyes.

Fatso Catso

I have been one to always prize myself on keeping my cats fit and trim, especially since they are outside cats and get plenty of exercise. But then there is Big B (recently nicknamed Fatso Catso by Duke), one of our two black cats we adopted...

You might notice that Big B is BIG. Not only BIG, but FAT.
