CoffeeShop Vintage Frames 14 Tutorial!
I have really enjoyed making these vintage frames into digital layered files such as Vintage Frames 14. Usually I would scan the frame and then cut out the photo area so I could slide an image under it. However, I wanted to create a method where my frames would instantly "age" my images without having to add any additional textures or editing steps/actions. So I came up with this nifty method that I want to share with you. Just scan in any vintage frame and then follow my tutorial

CoffeeShop Vintage Frames 14!
I had been emailing back and forth with Lori Peterson about various editing things when she mentioned she had a box full of personal vintage family photos and wondered if I could help her make them into digital frames. As you know, I have a vintage frame addiction, so I jumped on the opportunity and asked her to send them to me ASAP. The frames were gorgeous and the best part is Lori said I could share them with my readers!
I will be posting a tutorial on how I go from a scanned image of a vintage frame to my final layered frames with built-in aging texture in the next few days. But until then, I hope you enjoy the first of a series of vintage frames donated by Lori! If you end up downloading and using the frame please go "Like" her Facebook page and tell her how much you love it.
Like Frames 12 and Frames 13, this frame will instantly age your image without any extra editing on your part. It has five layers (starting from the bottom): The frame, clipping mask, B&W conversion, Vintage Color Tint and Vintage Texture. Simply drag and group your image just above the clipping mask layer. You can find a tutorial here. If you don't want an aged image, just turn off all of the layers above your image by clicking on the little eyeball on the left side. That way you will just have the frame effect.
Once you group and free transform your image to fit the frame (Ctrl-T), then you have an instant aged effect. If you don't like the torn part on the bottom of the image, you can simply cover it up with black on the clipping mask layer. But I personally love it! :-)
Turn off the B&W conversion layer to get a soft color vintage effect.
I hope you enjoy using these frames as much as I do! Download the free CoffeeShop Vintage Frames 14. If that link does not work, you can download the frames HERE. It is also included in the CoffeeShop Digital Designs Pack Download.

CoffeeShop Before and After Storyboard Action!
I am forever posting before and after storyboards up on the web to showcase my new actions, and I needed to write a simple storyboard action to do all of the work for me. However, I didn't want a simple diptych action (I already have one of those). I needed an action that I could also use when my "after" image was a different shape than my original image. I also wanted a storyboard that worked with both horizontal and vertical images. So I wrote this nifty little action that allows your "after" image placement to be adjusted after the action runs so even oddly shaped images will fit.
This action is not just for displaying before/after images; it is also a great two photo storyboard that allows you to post two images of any shape.
Instructions:
1. Open your original "before" image (or any image you want on the left side). Make sure nothing else is open in PSE or Photoshop!
2. Start the action. The action will prompt you to open your "after" image (or the image you want on the right side) and it will place it on the storyboard. If it is a different shape, it might not be placed in the middle or parts of it might be hanging over the side. Don't worry, you can fix this after the action is finished. "Before" and "After" text will also be added, you can adjust these layers later.
3. The action will prompt you to resize your image for the web. Put in the final width in px's, you don't have to change anything else.
4. The action has to sharpen both sides separately since they are on different layers. Sharpen the left image first (just adjust the radius) and then the right image.
5. When the action is finished you will see 5 layers. In the storyboard below, the "after" image is too large and needs to be transformed to fit. I clicked on the "after" image layer.
6. Then I Cntr-T (free transformed) the image to fit. If you are using PSE make sure "constrain proportions" is checked and do not hold shift. If you are using Photoshop, hold shift as you free transform and move your image.
7. Finally, you can edit the text layers or even turn them off. Flatten the image if you are posting it on a white background, do not flatten and save as a .png if you want to post this image on a background that is not white. You can also change the background color on the storyboard by filling it with your favorite color.
Hope you enjoy my newest free storyboard action! Download the CoffeeShop Before and After Storyboard PSE/PS action or here.

CoffeeShop Vintage Frames 13!
I am officially addicted to making vintage frames and here is my newest version, CoffeeShop Frames 13. This frame is perfect for posting on the web or using on cards or small storyboards. Like CoffeeShop Frames 12, this is a layered psd file that you open in PSE or Photoshop. It has a extra texture layer that instantly ages your image, no action/editing needed!
For full instructions on how to use this frame, please read the CoffeeShop Frames 12 post. I used a beautiful paper texture from Playingwithbrushes from Flickr.
You can also easily make a vintage B&W (see image below). Add and group a Black to White Gradient Map Adjustment layer (or a Black and White adjustment layer) above the image to turn it B&W. Then make a copy (Ctrl-J) of the Vintage Texture layer, group it with the rest, and put that in soft light blending mode to lighten the image. Almost instantly your photo looks like it has been in the attic for decades!
Download the free CoffeeShop Frames 13 Vintage Frame. If that link does not work, you can download the frame here. The frame is also included in the CoffeeShop Digital Design Pack.

CoffeeShop Frames 12 - Vintage Frame and Edit!
I love vintage photos, and I had so much fun creating these two new vintage web frames. These are unique as they have a vintage texture within the layered frame that you can use to instantly age your photo, so no messing with actions or additional adjustment layers! I used a paper texture from PlayingwithBrushes from Flickr in this frame. She has a huge selection of gorgeous vintage textures, so please check out her page.
Instructions (for additional instructions on making a vintage B&W image, please click here):
1. Open your image.
2. Open the vintage frame.

CoffeeShop Storybook Vintage Action UnWrapped Tutorial!
I want to personally thank all of my readers who have purchased the CoffeeShop Action Pack (where I packaged my favorite actions in one convenient download). I have had requests from readers to put together a similar download for some of my design elements such as storyboards, textures, frames, and cut-outs. So I finally sat down and picked out my favorites and zipped them all up in a file (almost 130 MB!). You can find all of the information on the CoffeeShop Digital Design download here.
And I also wanted to thank all of my readers for their donations, comments, and regular visits. Your support, generosity, and incredibly nice comments make this blog not only possible, but a joyful creative outlet for me. I love staying home with my two little boys, and it has been such a blessing to be able to help support my family through this blog. I love posting freebies and tutorials, so if there is anything in particular you would like to see on my blog, please comment!
Now, on to the meat of this post! I love writing actions, but I also love teaching editing, so here is another one of my Action UnWrapped tutorials. If you want to download the CoffeeShop Storybook Vintage action that inspired this tutorial, you can find it here.

If you are new to my blog, welcome!!! The CoffeeShop Blog is a one-woman-owned business (by me, Rita!) and I create all of the tutorials and freebies posted here. If you want to grab hundreds of my Photoshop/PSE actions (including exclusive sets not found here on my blog), Lightroom Presets, and professional digital designs (including all of my favorite holiday sets) in a single download AND help support my site please check out my CoffeeShop Download Pack. Thanks to you The CoffeeShop Blog is possible.
Here is my newest free action, CoffeeShop Storybook Vintage Action. I love vintage actions and this is the first one I wrote on my new iMac! Of course, this action will run in both Macs and PCs.
When you run this action the only setting you will have to adjust is how much you want to feather the vignette layer. It is preset to 100.
When you run this action you will have four layers. On my "after" I moved the Vintage Color Tint up from 50% to 80% and the Vignette from 100% to 60%.
I hope you enjoy my newest free action! Want to know what is going behind the scene in this action? Just click here to see the Storybook Vintage Action UnWrapped Tutorial (where I take apart the action so you know what it is doing in every step).

CoffeeShop Frames 11!
So this is my first real post posted from my new computer! I am finally up and working once again. It feels great to be back on the computer, especially a brand new shiny one. ;-)
OOPS- LINKED FIXED!!!
I have been playing around using brushes, quick masks, and different filters to get a vintage edged frame. Here is a set of three blog frames I made using these techniques. These are layered .psd files for Photoshop or PSE and they are customizable. You can easily change the color of the texture frame (I used a beautiful texture from Chasing Dreams SongBird texture set) by adjusting the color fill adjustment layer. You can also group your own texture above the frame.
Use the clipping masks to add your images. These frames are 1000px wide, so simply resize for your own blog or website. I hope you enjoy playing with these new blog frames!

Happy Independence Day!!!
I have been busy with my family and getting my new iMac up and running (I am almost finished and can start working on it 100% by tomorrow!) so I haven't had time to take any photos or work on any posts. But I wanted to wish all of my American readers a happy 4th of July!
We are in serious drought right now so no firework shows, but we spent the evening outside with the boys. Relaxation is wonderful. Now if we would only get some rain...
I will be back blogging this week!!! I have tons of freebies coming your way.
