CoffeeShop Photoshop/PSE Tutorial" "Autumn Pumpkin Card"!

It has been ages since I posted a design Photoshop/PSE tutorial. I write tutorials for the Graphics Fairy but haven't taken the time to add more tutorials here. Well, today I was inspired to post a fall-inspired card design tutorial!

In this tutorial I show you how I made the painted pumpkins (included in the download below) and then use them along with one of my Orange Morris textures and a daguerreotype texture to create a pretty 5 by 5 greeting card.

If you want to get all my newest freebie posts sent to your email, I just added a subscribe via email link on the top of my right sidebar!

Create a Autumn Pumpkin Card in Photoshop/PSE:

1. Download this free pumpkin image.

Use your favorite method to remove it off of the white background.

2. "Hand Paint" Pumpkin: I wanted to use pumpkins that looked painted, so I wanted to show you a quick way to get that effect using a public domain photo.

Add a Solid Color bright orange layer (I just grabbed the darker orange from the Morris paper) and clip it to the pumpkin. Turn the opacity down to 75% or so, until the pumpkin looks painted but you can still see some of the details.

Use a black hard brush on the layer mask to remove the orange from the stem.

3. Clip a lighter orange (from the paper) Solid Color layer on top around 75% opacity and fill the layer mask with black.

Use a hard white brush to add the color to the stem.

Now we have a lovely painted pumpkin that has some nice detail.

4. Make a new document 5 inches by 5 inches, 300 pixels/inch and center the Morris Fall 2 texture on top.

5. Place the daguerreotype #2 texture on top in Soft Light blending mode, 55% opacity. This really adds a gorgeous worn effect.

6. Add the big pumpkin in the center under the daguerreotype texture and add a drop-shadow effect.

Note: The other two pumpkins are made from this big pumpkin. I just reduced their sizes, tilted or flipped them, and used a layer mask to remove part of the stem.

7. Add the other two pumpkins.

8. Select all three pumpkin layers and center them in the middle of the card.

9. Add your quote or greeting (I used Dancing Script OT) and add a drop-shadow and/or embossing if you want.

Isn't this cute! You can download this version, a version without the quote, and the three pumpkins down below.

CoffeeShop "Antique Time Pieces" Digital Design Set!

I absolutely love vintage time pieces and I was so excited to see such a beautiful variety of them at Rijksstudio. Many of these are from the 18th century.

I picked some of my favorites, edited them, and saved them as PNG files so you can use them in your own designs. I hope you have fun playing with them!

CoffeeShop "Floral Decorations" Digital Clipart Set!

It is a dark and rainy day today and the temps will get in the 70's. Then by Wednesday night we should have a hard freeze. Thankfully It isn't supposed to be as cold or snowy like our horrible freeze last February. That happened just days after we were hit by that drunk. I was so upset because it was the most snow I have ever seen here in my life, and Isaac couldn't go play in it because of his broken leg.

The one year anniversary of the wreck is in a few days and how far we have come. Every day I am so thankful for our blessings and that both of our boys are with us. And thankful for Hoover too. I just read the other day you get the dog you need, and that was so true in our case. Life is good.

I wanted to share some really pretty vintage floral decoration clip art. These would be so pretty on papers, cards, stickers, photos, etc. I hope you find some use for them!

CoffeeShop "Antique Quilts" Digital Texture Designs

I love vintage quilts. I have one crazy quilt that is in pieces my grandmother found in a garage sale and gave to me. I am saving it for a future project, or I might simply frame a large piece of it. The stitching is so beautiful and I love that whoever made it incorporated so many different scraps of fabric.

Today I wanted to share a set of gorgeous digital quilts textures from the 1800's that are not musty-smelling garage sale finds. These quilt images are high-resolution and can be used in your own designs. They come with free commercial terms-of-use.

I found them all at the Met and Rijksmuseum.

The detail is amazing! I didn't clean them up too much, I wanted them to be authentically aged.

CoffeeShop "Vintage Lace Pieces" Design Elements and Photoshop/PSE Tutorial!

I am so excited to share my newest designs with you! These are all high-resolution vintage lace PNGs that can be used in your own designs. They are so pretty and delicate. This set come with free commercial terms-of-use with no limitations. And if you are interesting in making your own lace, I included a tutorial below.

In the example below I added CoffeeShop Lace 3 in  Soft Light blending mode to this texture.

I placed CoffeeShop Lace 7 on top of my design below. I increased the lace's brightness and added a drop-shadow.

In case you are interested in how I made these or would like to make your own, I have included the full step-by-step Photoshop/PSE tutorial below. You can download the free lace set I made toward the bottom of this post.

CoffeeShop "Vintage Lace" Photoshop/PSE Tutorial:

I downloaded these lace images at the Rijksmuseum. This is the lace I used in this tutorial. These are all public domain and high-resolution images.

Add a Levels adjustment layer and bring the Shadow slider to the right until the background is completely black.

Grab the Magic Wand tool, make sure Contiguous is unchecked, and then click to select the black background.

Double-click on the Lace layer to make it an editable layer, then click the "Delete" key. This will remove all of the background.

Adjust the Levels layer until you are satisfied with the lace brightness and contrast.

Optional: To remove any unsightly shadows or stains, add an Ivory Color Fill Layer on top in Soft Light blending mode and clip it to the lace.

This is the finished lace! I added the background color so you can see how pretty it is. When you use it on designs you can add a drop-shadow for a realistic look.

CoffeShop "1900 Christmas" Clipart from Vintage Menus!

This summer I discovered some public domain 1800-1900 vintage menu covers from a Bremen, Germany cruising company. My father moved to Texas from Bremen during the 1960's so I wanted to edit a few for him to hang in his study.

I thought Dad would really enjoy this print with the beautiful (topless) mermaids beckoning the ship. Nothing says "Sail with us and get to see topless sexy mermaids" better than this poster! I think my husband would enjoy this cruise...

Anyway, let's move on from scantily-dressed mermaids. While downloading the Bremen menu covers I then found some really nice Christmas-themed menus where everyone was dressed appropriately for the season. So I decided to edit some of my favorite images off of them and share them with you today.

These have free commercial terms-of-use so please feel free to use them any way you want.

CoffeeShop "Give Thanks" Fall Design Set #2!

We are back to hot weather, but supposedly it is going to cool down by the end of this week and no more days in the 90's. Got to love Texas weather!

I fixed the download link on the fall patterned papers from last week. The plaid paper was a PSD file saved with a JPG extension so it wouldn't open up for everything. But it has now been updated! Figures I screw up my favorite paper of the set.

I wanted to share another set of fall-inspired digital designs today. These are all high-resolution PNG files with free commercial terms-of-use. Most of the original images came from here, I edited and cleaned them up in Photoshop.

You can grab the first fall set here. And check out all of my free fall-inspired designs.

I have two beautiful Photoshop/PSE actions lined up that are perfect for this season, they will come out later this week.

CoffeeShop "Give Thanks" Fall Designs Set #1!

Happy first day of my one of my favorite months, October! It is a stormy day here in Texas and really looks like fall. It doesn't feel like it yet, it is 75 degrees this morning. But looking outside my window in my third-floor office I can  pretend it is cooler outside.  I hope you are having some nice fall weather today.

Here are some new fall clipart designs. I extracted, cleaned up and edited vintage images I found here. I also found some photos of pumpkins and made illustrations of them using Topaz in Photoshop. I was on a whirlwind editing adventure last week trying to make as many as I could in time for your fall designing, and I will have a second set coming out next week.

Historically I wait too long to release seasonal designs, so I am trying to be prompt this year!

These designs would be perfect for designing papers, greeting cards, menus, etc. And they come with free commercial terms-of-use. I hope you can find a use for them!

CoffeeShop "Autumn" Images for Designs!

Tropical Storm Nicholas thankfully didn't impact us too badly here in Houston. We live on the NW side and had some heavy rains and winds gusting in the 40's mph last night that kept me awake for hours. And this morning the yard is a giant mess of leaves and sticks. We only got about 2 inches of rain and never lost electricity so we were really lucky in our neck of the woods. If you were in the path of this storm I hope you weathered it well! I can't wait for hurricane season (and the hot muggy weather) to be finished for the year.

I wanted to let you know that I just updated my CoffeeShop Mega Download Pack (hundreds of textures, overlays, actions, designs, etc) with more new designs and put it on sale for $39 (previously $45). This pack is one convenient download of the best and the brightest from this blog and several exclusive Photoshop/PSE actions you can't find anywhere else. Everything comes with free commercial terms-of-use and you can request free updates up to 2 years after your purchase. This download pack supports my site so I can keep on posting my creations for free, so I really appreciate everyone that purchases it.

Today I made a new set of Autumn-inspired designs. These are high resolution PNG images and would be perfect used in your fall and Halloween creations like scrapbook papers, greetings cards, wall art, etc. And they have free commercial terms-of-use so use them anyway you wish.

One of the new actions I am going to be posting soon is one where you can almost instantly make a seamless pattern from 8 different images and then apply it on a paper (as the design seen above). I used this Autumn design set to create this paper. Click on it if you want to download it!

I downloaded the original public domain images for this set at the Biodiversity Heritage Library and RawPixel and edited them in Photoshop.

I am so far behind posting and have a backlog of new textures, designs, and tutorials so please come back soon!!!

I made this new design set from Giacomo Cavenezia designs. They remind me so much of Dr. Seuss illustrations. This set contains whimsical florals, griffons, and birds.

I designed a paper and washi tape set from them and I will post them later this week. One paper preview is posted below.

These designs come with free commercial terms-of-use, so use them anyway you want!

CoffeeShop "Portrait of a Lady" Illustrated Design Set!

I was going to post an update on our family this week but ran out of time. The kids and I have been fighting a cold so I am behind in everything. We haven't been so terribly sick, just fatigued and lazy. It doesn't help that it is so hot out there, the heat index is around 110F every afternoon, so we are just hanging out inside staying cool and keeping our germs to ourselves. :-)

Today I wanted to share some really pretty illustrated vintage portraits of women. These would be perfect to use as designs in various art pieces such as papers, journal pages, cards, stamps, stickers, etc. I wish I had time to create a few more for this set, but I will add some later. They come with free commercial TOU, so use them anyway you wish!

It has been busy here, but I am finally getting around to post this lovely flower set. They are all high resolution and have a slight painterly effect, and can be used in your commercial or personal designs with no attribution necessary. However, a link to my site is always appreciated!!!

I found the original images here and isolated, edited and painted them in Photoshop. I also made a pattern and a paper set using them and I will post that set tomorrow.

This is one of the papers from the set I will post tomorrow.

I hope you enjoy using these free graphic designs in your own work.

CoffeeShop "Hoefnagel Snails" Digital Designs

Today I wanted to share my newest digital designs, a set of pretty snails from this image. I isolated and edited them in Photoshop. You can use these in any of your own designs as they come with free commercial-use terms. The link to the snails can be found toward the bottom of this post.

I will have a new fine art texture set and action coming out next week!!!

I made a pattern using these snails and some roses from The Graphics Fairy  and created the paper you see below (with a corresponding striped paper). Who would have thought snails could be so pretty? ;-) Click on them if you want to download them.

CoffeeShop "Fishing Flies" Painterly Designs!

I love making digital designs, and today's set are fishing flies that would be perfect to use on your summer designs. You can see the original set here. I cut-out the lures, edited them, and then applied a watercolor paint texture. These fishing flies are high resolution png files and can be used in your personal or commercial work, no attribution necessary. They are so colorful and would look great used alone or made into a pattern.

Interesting fact, I love to fish but have never used a fishing fly. I usually use bait like worms, minnows, or hotdogs and catch a lot of catfish and turtles. :-)

I made a 10 by 10 digital paper using a fishing fly pattern I just made, seen below. Click on it to see the full version or download it.
