Help me name my newest CoffeeShop Free Action!

I need your help in naming my newest free portrait action (which is being fine-tuned as you read this). This action is your one-stop action for portraits and should be run on an unedited image. It does everything CoffeeShop PowderRoom 2 does, but includes 1) Levels adjustment layer for color/contrast correction 2) High Pass filter sharpening layer 3) Brighten layer 4) Vivid color layer filled in with a black layer mask so you just paint in vivid color where you want it 5) Soft color pop layer 6) dodge/burn layer 7) and completely automatic vignette layer. All of these layers can be turned off and on and are completely adjustable.

The image below shows all of the layers involved in this action. This action is not for the faint-hearted new user as it involves layer masks and some basic understanding of Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. You can also check out my CoffeeShop Layer Mask Tutorial . If you want to be a successful image editor, you need to learn layers! Don't be scared of them, once you pick it up they are simple.

People always ask me where to start when you are first trying to learn Photoshop Elements or CS. I always tell them the only photo-editing books I have bought are Scott Kelby's. His sense of humor might not thrill everyone, but he is an excellent teacher and his books are so easy to follow and actually fun. I still refer back to them all of the time. You can find the links to his newest Photoshop Elements and Photoshop CS4 books to the left. Check them out, they will save you so much time! I also have the link to my favorite photography book of all time, UnderStanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson. This is the book that finally helped me understand how to use my camera and not set it on the "idiot" mode. He explains exposure, aperture, and ISO and how they all work together. If you are scared to stop using the A or P mode, please read his book!

I was calling this CoffeeShop Pretty Portrait, but I am not happy with that name as it excludes males. ;-) I would love if you could leave comment with a name suggestion. Hope everyone is doing well and editing their Christmas photos!

  1. How about "The Whole Shebang"?

Totally looking forward to this one! The only thing I don't like about the updated PR2 is that it creates a copy and PR1 didn't. I prefer to work on the original, but it's great nonetheless so I can handle it! :)

  3. How about "Coffeeshop Action: The Works."
Unlike Missy, I prefer to work on a duplicate copy just in case I mess up I can always go back to the original.
Thank you for sharing your work.

  4. I think you said it yourself. Coffeeshop One Stop Portrait.

I am really looking forward to this!

  5. I can easily write two versions, one that works on a duplicate, one that doesn't. I will also make one version like that for PowderRoom 2 and include it in the zipped file. I will try to get it done tonight and I will make a note of it on my PowderRoom 2 blog post so you know it is there. I love when people give me suggestions!

  36. How about the: "Magazine Cover" Action, or the "Va-Va-Voom" action?

If you wanted to stick to your Coffee Shop theme, then you could call it the, "Whipped Cream Topping" Action or something :)

Can't wait to try it out!

    ReplyDelete
  37. OK, looking up coffee terms...I am on a roll!

Corretto - Means ′corrected′ or laced with an alcoholic spirit or liqueur.

Espresso Con Panna - A shot of espresso topped with whipped cream.

You could name it after us PEAS! LOL
Peaberry: Normally, each coffee cherry contains two beans. Occasionally, a cherry will form with only one bean. These are called peaberries and are frequently separated and sold as its own distinct varietal. New Guinea is one of the more popular ones.

  46. Just wanted to thank you for all you do! Your an angel to share all of your work and talents and ideas with us, and to do it for free is just incredibly kind. I have just gotten into photography and was spending countless hours doing the same routine post-processing steps to family portraits. Now I have a way to do it all in one!! Thanks so much! You are such a life saver!

  47. How weird, I was coming to comment and tell you "the whole shebang"...and it look like I'm not the only one who thought that.
You are amazing thanks for all you do! Can't wait for this one!

  48. Why not keep it simple and name it CoffeeShop Portrait....the name says it all :))

    ReplyDelete
  49. How about Venti Portrait Macchiato?
Meaning venti-large macchiato-marked in coffee it would apply when coffee or steamed milk is "marked" or "topped" with espresso, milk, caramel or other flavors that are not mixed into the drink.

I think it applies for the portrait because it is "marked" or "topped" with layers of edits to improve the original.

    What do you think?
    Terry
