I have a new action for you today! "Duotone Dreams" allows you to create your own custom two-toned B&W edit in both Photoshop and PSE. I love playing with B&W tinted images, you can get so many different effects with the same image.
You can pick up this action along with hundreds of my favorite actions, presets, and professional digital designs in one simple download and help support my blog by purchasing my CoffeeShop Mega Download pack!
CoffeeShop "Duotone Dreams" Action Tutorial:
Start the action. When the "Gradient Map" prompt pops up, double-click on the B&W gradient.
There are two adjustments you will make on the "Gradient Editor", both circled in red above. The left one changed the color tint in the shadows, the right one changes the color tint in the highlights. To open each one, double-click on the little square.
In this edit I will add a dark blue tint to the shadows.
And a bright ivory-peach to the highlights. Then press "OK" to select the gradient changes and "OK" again to close down the "Gradient Map".
When the "Guassian Blur" prompt pops up, adjust the Radius for a soft blur.
Finally, adjust the sliders on the "Levels" layer pop-up for contrast adjustments. In this edit I made the image high contrast.
And this version is a softer "matte-effect".
You can make further adjustments after the action finishes running.
This is my image after the action finishes running.
Turn on the "Soft Pop" layer to add more contrast if needed and adjust the opacity.
If the whites are too blown-out, turn on the "Save the Whites" layer and adjust the opacity.
You can also make a pretty tinted color image. Turn down the "Duotone" layer and adjust the other layers to taste.
I would love to see your own edits using this action on my Facebook page!

Cool edit. I've been seeing a lot of stuff lately on Duotones. Medialoot even has an online generator that you can use where you can upload a pic and then choose from the suggestions they have or create your own colour combos. One of these days I need to find some time playing around with these concepts. Thanks for the action!

You are so welcome! Yes, this is such a fun type of edit. I love the customization of using an action rather than an app, but I am just spoiled. Hee hee!
DeleteThank you for sharing the tutorial on how to use your edits and actions.
