CoffeeShop "CoolTone Grit" Photoshop/PSE Fine Art Action!

I hope everyone had a nice Halloween. We had a very rainy evening and only one family showed up at our door. But that was OK, we were watching the World Series in our cozy, dry house. Go Astros!

It has been gloomy the last few days so I was inspired to write a new fall/winter action called "CoolTone Grit".  This enhancement adds an adjustable cool-tinted, gritty, matte-effect to your images and looks amazing on many outdoor images.

Thanks to Pixabay for the original images I used in my examples in this post (fall leavescouple, woman, boardwalk).

CoffeeShop "CoolTone Grit" Photoshop/PSE Action Tutorial:

Run the "CoolTone Grit" action. A Levels adjustment layer will come up during the run. It is preset for a matte contrast effect, but you can adjust the sliders to add more or less contrast. You can also adjust this after the action finishes running.

This is the image with no adjustments after the action finishes.

Now you can go and adjust each layer to taste. For this image I reduced the "CoolTone, Reduce Color" layer to 15% opacity to add back some of the original color.

I then made slight adjustments to the contrast by opening up the "Contrast (Matte) layer.

I wanted to add some light on the boardwalk and trailer on the left, so I clicked on the "Darken Image" layer's mask and used a soft black low opacity brush to remove some of the darken effect.

I really love how this one turned out!
