I love playing with overlays to add beautiful light, and the other day I made this set of four "Summer Light" overlays. These are so easy to use in Photoshop and PSE and completely transform the light in your image.
These are super easy and fun to make. Just start with a blank template and paint on colors. I usually add a few different color fill layers with my favorite colors, and then I use a soft black brush on their layer masks to add the different colors. I love using blues, pinks, and oranges. You can easily make your own custom set!
I used a new beautiful images from Jill Wellington (Etsy Shop, Facebook, Blog, YouTube Videos, Pixabay) on this tutorial today.
CoffeeShop Tutorial: Using the "Summer Light Overlay" Set in Photoshop/PSE:
Here is the original image. This is stunning, but it is going to be fun to add some colorful light and haze.
Just the Overlays: Open the overlays. I used the CS Light 1 and 2 overlay in this edit. I put CS Light 1 in Hard Light and brought down the Fill to 65%. Then I removed some of that layer off the little girl using a layer mask and soft low opacity black brush.
I put the CS Light 2 (Orange) layer in Soft Light blending mode on top, 100% opacity and 100% fill and painted some of that layer off her skin.
Then I added a Levels adjustment layer (without making any changes to it) over the layer and put it in Multiply, 39% opacity. This added some contrast.
Finally, I put the Color Fill Layer in Overlay, 73% fill.
Here is another version I edited. This beautiful image is also Jill's.
On this edit I ran the CoffeeShop "Lovely Light" action on the image and put the Color Fill layer on top in Overlay, 61% opacity and 65% fill. Then I put the CS Light Overlay 3 under that, in Hard Light, 64% fill. Finally, I kept the reduce Haze layer set to 100%

Hi! This seems like a silly question but how do you open the overlays?
