As I mentioned in my last post, I wanted to redesign my design website and this blog, so I had to make some new design elements. It was grueling terrible work (not!) and now I want to start sharing them with you. Today I am posting for download six high-resolution bird silhouettes. In the "ad" above I used gorgeous papers from 2 Lil' Owls to add texture and color to my birds.
If you are interested to know how I created these silhouettes it is pretty simple but can be time-consuming. Some of them I hand-selected in Photoshop from vintage bird prints from The Graphics Fairy, others I selected from some vintage bird scans I did. Then I made the birds black and brought them into Inkscape and turned them into vector files. Then I was able to make them large resolution pngs for sharing.
If you want to add texture, drag your favorite texture on top of the bird and then group it. Ctrl-T (free transform) the texture to fit your bird. I also like to add a drop-shadow to the bird layer. Then save as a png file if you want the background transparent. If you just flatten and save as a jpg your background will be white.
You can see I used some of them in my header.
I hope you enjoy these little birds as much as I have. And like all of the CoffeeShop freebies on this blog, they come with a free commercial license so you can use them however you want, no attribution necessary (but always appreciated of course!). Please don't repackage and sell "as is". Keep them free as a bird. ;-)
