Family Vacation

A vacation is what you take when you can no longer take what you've been taking. ~Earl Wilson

My husband started his own clinic several years ago, so we haven't had the time nor money to take many family vacations.  However, we try to get out of town at least once a year, even though we usually stay in Texas.   The last months have been rather stressful on the adults in our family, so we decided to go to Fredricksburg, TX (one of my favorite vacation destinations) for a long weekend.

We had a lovely time,
even though we were gone for only a few days.  We stayed in this beautiful house that was built in the 1800's, right on Main St.  We went out for German food and beer (my father is German), had coffee on our beautiful Mexican-tiled patio, visited several wineries, and hiked at Enchanted Rock and Pedernales State Parks. It was the perfect little holiday and so relaxing.

We have had a drought through most of Texas this year (our grass in our yard is almost completely dead...) and it has been really warm, but that weekend it was cool and we even had a few hours of soft rain.  Normally you would never see me in a sweatshirt during the spring, and I have to confess I was in heaven.  After months and months of dry warm weather, this almost fall-like weather was so refreshing.

This was exactly what we needed as a family.  Nothing like fresh-brewed coffee, great wine, fresh air and being with your family to get your spirits up.   Now I just need to figure out why my older son Duke gets that constipated look on his face every time the camera comes out!  ;-)

  2. We vacationed in Fredericksburg one year for a long weekend! It's a beautiful, quaint town. I remember there being a lot of German food, not my favorite, but the hills and landscape were spectacular. Glad you could get away.

  4. Rita, I'm a native Texan and spent time in Fredericksburg, Glen Rose, etc. Great childhood memories. I'm so happy you all were able to get away to such a magical place in Texas --- and that the weather was good!

  5. LOVE it!

You've mentioned E-Rock before on your blog. If you are interested, I have a few E-rock posts from April on my blog. Have you been to Bastrop State Park? You would like it. Not too much farther than Fredericksberg. I have some posts in December on my blog from Bastrop SP.

  8. I'm going there this weekend with my 2 best friends and we are hitting up that winery - woohoo!!!!!!!! I've never been to Enchanted Rock - just driven past. I wonder if I can pull them away from the wineries, breweries and shopping for long enough?!
