Could you answer my poll to the right of this post?

I am writing some new web-ready actions and I would love to know what size images you usually post on your blog/website/facebook/etc. so I can make the most common size pop up when the action runs. Of course,
the action will be adjustable, but I hope to save some of you time.  I might even make a few versions of the actions with the most popular sizes.

Just look over at my poll on my sidebar and click on the common image pixel widths you like to crop your images before posting.

I know you can post any size image on your blog and make it show up smaller to fit your posts. However, it is a good idea to make your images smaller (lower resolution) when you post them so people will be less likely to steal them.   Blogger hosts it images on Picasa and free accounts limit how much space you are allowed, so why not load smaller images.

I am finally thinking of upgrading my old Canon Rebel XT for a new Canon EOS Rebel T2i. My XT is still working (it is the  Timex of the camera world), but it is having some issues with noise and focusing so I think I might be forced to finally upgrade... I love the fact that the Canon T2i has a HD video camera built in (I understand it is not incredibly easy to work) so that I can hopefully just carry one camera for video and still images. Right now I have a nice little video camera that saves on those tiny tapes and I need to transfer them all.  Stressful!

If anyone has the Canon T2i I would love to hear what you think about it!  Now I have to save up for my Christmas present camera.   I keep on telling myself that I need this camera for my blog (it is a photography blog, right?), but it still feels like a lot of money.  ;-) I planned on buying this camera two birthdays ago, but almost a year and half later my old camera is still clicking away.

I am also trying to reorganize this blog and I just updated my storyboard page. If you want to see all of the free storyboard, templates, and frames (actions included), just go click on the top menubar under Storyboards!

  1. Canon has a customer loyalty program where you can trade in old cameras for refurbished new ones. If you don't need to keep your XT anymore, you can call and ask what the trade-in value is. That might make it less expensive and then you'll feel better.

  2. Rita, I got a T2i Thursday and I love it! I have an XSi and decided that the upgrade made sense because of the higher ISO capabilities. The screen resolution is amazing! I took pictures in the dark and they look like they were taken in daylight. It really is an amazing camera. My daughter just got a Nikon D7000 and this camera holds its own with hers and the image quality is just as good. I can't believe the features this camera has! I highly recommend this camera! I really hope you get one! Good luck!

  3. What size pixels do you suggest?

  4. I have had the Rebel XS, XTi, T1i and now have the T2i. I have no where the talent you do, but I love the camera. My lenes are the 18-24, 55-250, 50, fisheye macro, and my fav the 85. And wondering what lens I need next... I use the speedlite 580EX II. I have only used the video function a couple times, but my flip video is SOOOO much easier to use. I don't really resize my pics for my blog, which I know I should, but I'm not sure who would want my pics anyway. LOL! I've never been disappointed in the upgrade and never had a problem selling my old ones.

Thanks for all your actions! I hope one day to get the hang of photography and editing.

  5. I was going to buy the T2i to replace my xti but got the 60D instead. It wasn't that much more, but the one thing that swayed me was that it is quicker focusing and takes more shots per second than the T2i. I have had it for just over a month and don't regret it for a minute. It also gives you the option to add your copyright info into the exif data. There's lots more rave about but those were the determining factors for me.

  6. Rita, I can't speak directly to the T2i, but I have the T1i and love it. It has video that is very easy to use, and the ISO range is so much better than my XSi was. All of the controls are in the same place, so you won't have too much of an adjustment period going from the XT to the T2i (unless the T2i is drastically different than the T1i).

  8. I have the T1i, and I am told (by at least one camera store)that the only improvement the T2i has over it is that the T2i can actually take advantage of the faster cards' writing speeds. I don't have a problem unless I'm shooting at higher ISO's in continuous burst or on flash. I absolutely LOVE my T1i.

  9. I'm a photographer who's in love with all things Canon. I've used a simple Rebel T1i for a long time but recently purchased a T2i to be my "back up" camera. Let's just say that my old trust T1 is NOW the backup camera! LOL
The T2 actually got reviews that rated it right up there with the
60D....and it's quite a bit less! I love mine! Two thumbs up, for sure!

  10. I have the Canon T1i and love the video feature. I just realized I can take still shots while videoing (but it cuts out the sound and image of the video while I takes) and after I figured out how to focus it, it's been great. The hd picture quality is amazing!

  11. I bought the T1i as my first DSLR and I love it. The T1i had all the features I wanted AND since the model is more than a year old I figured I could score a good deal on a used model, which is exactly what I did. I hunted ebay and Craigslist until I knew exactly what a good deal was and I bought a used one. I couldn't be happier with it. So unless the T2i has bells and whistles you really want, you can save a few $$ :)

  12. Sorry I can't be of much help. I'm in the process of upgrading from my XTi due to focusing problems. I'll be watching for comments and suggestions.

  13. I've had the T2i for a couple months now and I love it! The low light capabilities far outweigh the XTi I used to have! While I hope to someday upgrade to the 5D, I do not regret buying the T2i at all! I think B&H is still having the rebate ($50 off). I would definitely recommend it.

BTW - I LOVE your actions and tutorials and I am immensely grateful to you for giving them away. I'm working on a few to give away, but they're way simpler than yours!! Not really sure anyone will want mine :-)

  14. You are WAY ahead of me in skill and experience, but just wanted to say I love my T2i. It's my first big camera, I upgraded from a PowerShot point and shoot. My husband is old school and still shoots slide film, and he's impressed with the quality too.

  15. I got a T2i a couple of months ago and LOVE LOVE LOVE it! Its my first DSLR and I'm really enjoying it, the photo's are great and I love the HD video feature, its so handy when we're out and the kids do something funny I can quickly take a video :)
I really need to sit down and read the manual properly, I know there's so much more it can do :)

  16. I am such an amateur that I don't even know what pixel size my photos end up being. I just use the S in my Rebel XT and upload them to Windows LiveWriter and put it in my post. Am I doing it wrong? I've always wondered what people meant by making photos "blog" size. Is that what you mean for your poll? I'm at a loss.

  17. I don't have a T2i but am also shopping for one. Ebay has sellers with new T2i's that come with rad lens kits! Check it. Word.
