CoffeeShop Vintage Honey PS/PSE Action and Action UnWrapped!

This month I will be celebrating my birthday (it's one of those landmark ones), and I decided that this birthday would be celebrated from Sept. 1st to Sept. 30th. That means extra chocolate and coffee, going out to eat a few more times than normal, extra back rubs from my dear old husband, and a bit more slacking off than normal. So happy birthday to me!!!

Now I know all of you want to get me a gift, so I have made my short list: Canon EOS Rebel T1i 15.1 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera with 3-Inch LCD (Body Only) . ;-) Actually, I am not a big fan of gifts (perhaps because I am not a great shopper myself), but I know my husband does read my blog (and thankfully sometimes points out interesting rules of grammer and spelling I seem to have created) and he knows I hate surprises (very true) and we don't have any extra money (also true) but perhaps a tiny part of his giant brain will retain this information and once my old trusty cracked Canon Rebel does completely bite the dust, a new camera might make its home with me. Then, happy birthday to me!!!

Now, on to my actual post. I was playing around trying to get a honeyed vintage effect and I hit upon one I really like. After running this action play around with the opacity of any of the layers for different effects. If you want to download the action click on the link at the bottom of this post. For those of you who want a step-by-step tutorial so you can do this on your own, please read the CoffeeShop Vintage Honey UnWrapped tutorial below.

CoffeeShop Vintage Honey UnWrapped!

1. Color Fade Layer: Add a gradient map adjustment layer, black to white. This turns your image B&W. Adjust the opacity to fade the color but not completely remove it. For the image above it was set to 40%.

2. Purple Color Fill Layer: Add a color fill adjustment layer and put #4d1c5d in the bottom space. Put this layer in Screen blending mode and adjust opacity to taste (I used 100%).

3. Yellow Color Fill Layer: Add a color fill adjustment layer and put #faec0a in the bottom space. Put this layer in Color blending mode and adjust opacity to taste (I used 15%).

4. Ivory Color Fill Layer: Add a color fill adjustment layer and put #fdfceb in the bottom space. Put this layer in Normal blending mode and adjust opacity to taste (I used 10%).

5. Bright Blue Color Fill Layer: Add a color fill adjustment layer and put #0f1977 in the bottom space. Put this layer in Exclusion blending mode and adjust opacity to taste (I used 25%).

My birthday gift list is along the same lines....I want a Canon G11 as a second camera that I can take along more easily.

I would like to wish you a scent-sational Birthday September.
And if you do get the digital camera, I know you will love it. I sold two cameras in June to help me finance the purchase of mine. I have already taken thousands of photographs with it. Enjoy!

Happy Birthday to you! Mine was last month. I like how you celebrate your birthday all month long. I will be sure to eat some chocolate in your honor.

Thank you for everything you do to make our photographic lives easier and better.

You have beautiful actions and talent. You look like you in your twenties, so don't admit to your age, whatever that young age may be.

Happy Birthday! And good choice on the camera. My other half bought me that camera for my own milestone birthday this summer, and I'm lovin' it. The 18-55 mm IS kit lens is fine, and the price is lower when bundled with the camera, so I went that route as it was my first D-SLR. I also invested in the 75-300 mm (not IS, unfortunately) Canon lens, and the nifty 50 (cheaper one). I love that f/1.8! I'm looking forward to adding to those as I can afford them. Thanks for your amazing freebies, and best wishes on a great birthday month! - A Canuck
