CoffeeShop "Winter Wonderland" Photoshop/PSE Fine Art Action!

Today I have a really fun winter action called "Winter Wonderland". This action applies a gorgeous winter tint to your images (and will eliminate greens!) and applies three different sizes of optional snow. If you live in my part of Texas this action is a necessity if you want a real winter portrait. ;-)

For full instructions on using this action, page down.

Photos used in my examples are from Unsplash (cattle, looking through foliage, wedded bliss, lovers by the lake)

CoffeeShop "Winter Wonderland" Photoshop/PSE Action Tutorial:

Run "Winter Wonderland". A snow "Motion Blur" editing pane will pop up. Make adjustments if necessary.

This is the image after the action finishes running with no adjustments. You can make adjustments to the layers at this point to fine-tune your edit.  Adjust or turn-off the "Matte" layer if you want a higher contrast effect.

You can stop here with the beautiful winter tint or add snow!

There are three choices of snow (large, medium, and small flakes), just turn on the layer that looks best on your image. I used "large flakes" for this edit.

Snow Tips: If you want the snow to look bigger, just select the snow layer of choice and free-transform it (Ctrl-T) larger. You can also tilt it to make the snow appear to be coming from a different direction. And it is fun to combine several snow types and adjust each opacity to taste.

I then clicked on the "large flakes" layer mask to select it and grabbed a soft low opacity black brush to carefully remove the snow from their skin and part of their hair.

If you have too much green in your image (for example, you are editing a winter image taken in Texas), you can turn on either/both of the "Remove Greens/Yellow" layers and adjust the opacity to taste. If you turn on these layers you will most likely want to paint them off skin, hair, and clothing in portraits.

In this case I turned on the top "Remove Greens/Yellow" layer and adjusted the opacity to 50%, and painted it off their skin, hair and the flowers.

I hope you have fun using this action! I would love to see your before/afters on my Facebook page.
