I hope all of my American readers had a wonderful 4th of July. We had dinner at our friend's house with my parents. Great food and companionship had by all! Then the boys put on their biannual "Firework Extravaganza Show!!!". They didn't have many fireworks but they take forever deciding on each one, so the show went on and on and on and on... I think Paul took a small nap, until he was rudely awakened by the Grand Finale Explosion.
This holiday weekend I had some extra time to play on the computer and I put together a really nice set of sun overlays. You can use these on your images in Screen blending mode to add a gorgeous natural-looking setting sun effect. I am going to write a tutorial on how I created these so you can make your own if you want!
I also have a gorgeous action that goes with this overlay set called "Sunset Dreams". You can grab it!
I want to thank the gifted and generous photographers' images I used in this post. (Flower Woman, Braid, Canoe) and a special thanks to Lisa Rubel Photography (website, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) for allowing me to use her stunning image of the girl in the coat in my example above.
CoffeeShop "Sublime Sun" Overlay Tutorial:
Open your image. You can grab this image here.
Edit or run you favorite action. I wrote an action perfect for this overlay set called "Sunset Dreams".
Then add the sun overlay to your image. Free transform it to fit and put it in Screen blending mode. Copy that layer if you want more sun effect and adjust the opacity to taste. I used it two times in this example, with the copy at 49% opacity.
I hope you enjoy using these new overlays. Please post your before/after on my Facebook page, I love to see what you have done with them.
