{Friday Photo Bliss} Birthday, Park Days, and Piper Photo Bomb!

On Fridays I like to post snapshots of my week that make me happy. I skipped last week and found quite a few photos on my phone that I wanted to share.

Now I have a 12-year-old in my house. I told him he is like a fine wine or cheese and just gets better every year.

It is true.

I made a New York-style crustless cheesecake with chocolate swirls. It was amazing.

I am not a cake-person, but for some reason cheesecake makes me weak at the knees. I would marry cheesecake if I wasn't already married to the father of my children.

This kid breaks all tradition and doesn't blow out all of the candles with one breath, but instead blows out each candle seperately. He still makes a wish and I don't have the heart to tell him that it won't come true.

According to the "Official Birthday Candle-Blowing Wish Decree".

He coerced his brother to play his new Star Wars board game with  him. This game is massive and takes several hours.

My older son is a completely geek.

He takes after his mom.

We have been spending shorter school days these last weeks, so the  boys have had plenty of time to play with their best friend.

They played some Speedminton in our yard. And wanted me to take their photo. They are natural models.

They slid down the giant "Colon Slide" (my nickname) at a local park.

And went hiking.

Where we finally saw fall. Days before official winter.

I love Texas.

I wanted a photo with my boys so their buddy took a few for me.

Great, Duke's eyes are closed.

Now my eyes are closed... If I had more energy it would be "head swap time". But instead I decided to post both photos so you can mentally combine the best part of each.

Wow, that really does make me sound lazy when I reread that sentence.

My 7-year-old nephew spent some time with us and we had a blast with him.

Boys, like dogs, need to be walked at the park daily. :-)

Talking about dogs...

"Come on Mom, why are you so slow? I have mailboxes to mark and I must bark at all the neighborhood dogs that are cursing at me in dog talk!"

I made some new "Chocolate Mint Swirl" soap. It is my own recipe and even has French Green clay and cocoa. It smells wonderful and I will post the recipe later.

I also mixed up some of my homemade face butter. My friends and family are addicted to this stuff so I wanted to make a big batch for gifts. I bought these little jars so they would look more professional.

If you want some real excitement in your life, you can read all about my soap and bag-making adventures.

Oops, my geekness is strong today.

I wanted to take some photos of my fancy face butter and soap in its lovely homemade bag.

Oh great, Piper just ran into my photo.

Seriously Dog, stop photo bombing my photoshoot!

Oh my gosh, can't you walk a little faster?

Finally.

Have a great weekend everyone!!!

  1. It looks so warm and fallish there! Here in Michigan, we are getting another 8 inches of snow tomorrow...we already have 9!

    1. Wow, that is incredible! Today the cold hit here and we are in the 30's. Which is really really cold for our part of town. No snow of course, just cold.

  2. Happy Birthday Duke! Welcome to the tweens.

Now you are just teasing me with home-made cheesecake. I too am not a cake cake person but LOVE cheesecake. Unfortunately, due to peanut and nut allergies I can't find any store bought ones. However, I have the best husband in the world. The past two years he as paid a colleague to make me a cherry cheesecake on my birthday.

Oh my that "Chocolate Mint Swirl" soap looks good enough to eat. Glad you are still having fun. Is the homemade face butter difficult to make?

    Anyway, have a great weekend!

  3. Cheesecake is the best of both words, savory cheese and some sweetness. LOVE! And the soap turned out amazing, I will post the recipe. I already gifted most of it because I have soap running out of my ears.

And the face butter is pretty simple, but it helps to have a stand mixer. I will post my recipe for that one also. It makes my face feel so amazing!
