One of the perks of using actions is you can automate boring tasks. I love storyboards, but I don't like having to manually create them and add images. So why not make it easy and write an action to do all of the hard work for me?
Today I have a brand new storyboard action for Photoshop and PSE I think you will love! This action automatically builds and loads a 1000px by 700px storyboard with optional lines between the photos and a tag for labeling. You can even customize the colors of the lines and tag. I called it "1V, 2H" because it has one vertical and two horizontal images. This action basically has four storyboards in one!
You can use this action to almost instantly create storyboards for your website, blog, Facebook page, etc. So easy AND fast!
I used beautiful "Vintage Val" images from Jill Wellington (Etsy Shop, Facebook, Blog, YouTube Videos, Pixabay) on this tutorial.
CoffeeShop "Magic Storyboard" Action Tutorial:
The image will be placed on the storyboard.
Hold shift (to keep your image from distorting) while dragging the image to position and resizing it to fit the left black vertical cutout. Press the check mark once you are done with placement.
The image will automatically get grouped with the clipping mask and you will be prompted to load the next image.
Once again hold shift while repositioning/resizing the image to the top right spot.
Repeat for the final image.
Once you have loaded all three images your storyboard will be finished. You can adjust image placement at this point if needed.
If you want color bars between the images, click to turn on the "Optional Lines" layer and adjust the color of the lines to taste.
You can also turn on the tag option by clicking on the "Optional Label" layer and adjust its color to taste.
Once you are happy with the storyboard; flatten, save, and show it off! Here is my final version.
