CoffeeShop Photographer Template: Mini Session #1

Happy Friday everyone!!!  We are having a few days of cool, sunny weather and it has been wonderful after a winter of rain.  Each day after we do school the boys and I have been going to a different local park to get some sun and exercise.  The blackberries and mulberries are also ripe in the woods behind our neighborhood so we have been picking and eating the free organic treats.

Because it is warm now the snakes are out like crazy which freaks out my snake-fearing husband.  He hates snakes with a passion, so when the boys and I see one in the yard we don't mention it to him as he will rush out with his hoe and violently take it out.  Seriously, he looks like an insane maniac chasing after those poor snakes.  Sure, many of them are poisonous (I think we have five poisonous types of snakes in our area), but they usually run away as fast as they can and I personally only know one person who has been bit by a poisonous snake and she did survive the experience.

Our house has really high ceilings and the second story has all of the windows painted shut for safety by the previous owners who had small kids (we don't have screens on the window and it is quite a drop).  However, we do have a back and front balcony with doors on either end of our shotgun-style house.   When it is pleasant outside I open both doors and turn on the fans to circulate the fresh air.

I had them both open after dark last night for a few minutes when I saw my husband closing them. I asked him why he was doing that and he told me that snakes could climb up the trees, drop on the balcony, and sneak into the house.  I think I almost died laughing.  He was not amused.  At all.

So later that evening I went into our dark bedroom and something slithered in front of me.  After jumping straight up in the air and almost peeing in my pants (that takes talent!) and thinking how much my husband was going to gloat, I turned on the light and saw the "snake" was just a large gecko.

Snakes on the balcony...  Yah, right.  I think he has watched too much television.  ;-)

UPDATE:  My husband was right, we do have snakes on our balcony.

I am going to post a series of customizable photographer mini-session templates on my blog and this is the first of the series.  It is a 5x7 fully-adjustable .psd file for Photoshop/PSE.  You can add your image using the included clipping mask (tutorial and free action) and change the descriptions to anything you want.

In the download I included the links to the fonts I used in the storyboard, but feel free to use different fonts and colors.  You can also change the color and/or the opacity of the white background behind the text and logo.

If there is a specific type of mini-session template you would love for me to create and post on my blog, please leave a comment below or on my Facebook page. I love new ideas and want to create things that you can actually use in your own work.

I used a beautiful image from  Jill Wellington in my sample seen above.

Download the CoffeeShop Mini Session Template 1.  You can also download it here.

  1. Lordee, I am glad I don't live in your neck of the woods. I'm trying to come up with how to spell what my mouth is saying but the closest is blublublublublublu (said with a shiver). My mother would be freaking even more.

Thanks for today's freebie. Have a great weekend.

  2. Rita, I hate to burst your bubble but snakes can climb trees and buildings and get on your balcony and into your house. By the way, I love your tutorials and freebies.

  3. Hee hee Vickie, I hope my husband doesn't read this blog post! I will hope the odds are low that a snake will sneak in from the second story. If my husband wakes up with a snake in bed with him he will probably die of a heart attack. ;-)

The good news is my husband is going to install the screen doors that the former owners left in the garage on both balconies. We just need to replace the ripped screens first.

And LIsa, have a great weekend too!!! I personally am cautious around snakes but I also find them quite beautiful. As long as they aren't in my house or under my feet. ;-)
