CoffeeShop "Spot of Light" Photoshop/PSE Tutorial!

Today I am going to show you one simple way to add drama to a portrait in Photoshop and PSE by adding light. This is such a simple method, no action is necessary!

I want to thank Vanilla Tree Photography for allowing me to use her beautiful image in this tutorial.  This image is stunning, but I want to add some simple, dramatic lighting.

I added a black Color Fill adjustment layer and put it in soft light.  As you can see, the image is very dark and contrasty, but we will fix it!

I clicked to select the white layer mask by the Color Fill 1 layer and grabbed a soft black brush at 100% opacity. I then clicked to paint over her face.  I think this really made the image "pop", and it was such a simple edit.  I use this method rather than a simple vignette since I have complete control of where I add the light.

I hope you are enjoying your Sunday.  I should have another action and LR preset coming out this week, so please come back and visit!

  2. Wow, that is a great tip... much better than a vignette since you have so much more control over the placement. Thanks for sharing!
