This and That

Do you ever have one of those days (or weeks or months)?  We were incredibly hungry and decided to go out to lunch with the kids.  The restaurant was only 5 minutes away, but we ran into a train issue.  It was chugging along quickly and then came to a stop.  We waited patiently because there were only nine more cars that had to go through.

After about five long minutes the train started again and my incredibly patient husband drove up to the line, excited to get some chow.  On a side note, didn't he do a great job pulling up right to the edge of the line?

Unfortunately the train stopped again, with one car blocking our way for another five minutes (pictured above)...  What luck, right?

And don't you love my car?  I used to drive a red 2005 Escape, but my mother-in-law decided to stop driving and wanted to sell her 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis.  It had only 45,000 miles and was in great shape and the blue book value was incredibly cheap.  But I have to confess it took me a month to decide to buy it.  Sure, I am middle-aged now, but everyone knows this car is for old folks.  But I swallowed my pride and decided the incredibly cheap price (no car payments!) and great safety of this car made it worth buying.

My husband took my nice sporty Escape (for some reason he didn't want to drive his mother's old car) and the kids and I got stuck with the "Granny Mobile".   It took me forever to figure out how to park this monster and deal with the less than stellar gas mileage, but I have to confess the V-8 power is nice.  I can blow away all of those middle-aged drivers in their cool cars in this beast.  ;-)

I wanted to let you know that I am going to take some time off to spend time with my family starting this weekend.  The last months have really taken a toil on my health and energy and I need some time to recharge and get back to my normal enthusiastic self.  I will be checking in, but I am going to try to stay off the computer as much as possible and enjoy the time with the family.   Those two boys of mine are growing up so quickly...

Oh, today is my 20th wedding anniversary!  Unfortunately we are all still recovering from a virus (I think I have bronchitis), so I don't know if we will feel like going out tonight, but hopefully by this weekend we can spend some alone time at a nice restaurant or maybe even a movie.  I have been lucky to be married to my best friend all of these years and I really appreciate him so much.  Happy Anniversary Sweetie!

I hope everyone has a great holiday weekend.  And thank you so much for being such great readers, I would not be doing with blog without all of you.

  9. Hope you feel better soon. If your cough doesn't go away, try sage tea to clear it. It's the only thing I ever found to help. You can use dried sage from the kitchen cupboard. One heaped teaspoon full, add almost boiling water, leave to brew for five minutes, strain, add 1 teaspoon of honey, drink whilst warm. Only give a little to kids (a couple of table spoons) as it's powerful and don't drink more than one cup a day for a few days (no more than 5 in a row). xo

  15. I love it, you drive one too. At 33 I started driving one too and have now gotten so used to it that I am not sure I could enjoy a small one. Enjoy your family!
