CoffeeShop Color Tints PS/PSE Action!

You might have noticed that I haven't posted much the last week. It has been really hectic here (like always!) and I decided we needed a mini holiday so we went to Galveston Island. Galveston was hit really hard by Hurricane Ike last fall, and this was our first visit post-hurricane. Do you know that Galveston at one time was a bigger and more famous city that New York? And that a hurricane in the early 1900's almost destroyed it and killed thousands of people (one of the world's biggest natural disasters)? Galveston Island has a fascinating history and I love to visit.

The weather was perfect and the beach was very clean and lovely (everything was washed out to sea ;-) ) and the island looked remarkable considering what we saw on the news after the hurricane. However, the majority of the lovely old live oaks lining Broadway St. and in the Strand and neighborhoods have not a leaf on them and apparently are dead. We couldn't figure out why until we realized that they had been covered with salt water for some time which seems to have killed them. It was quite sad, not to mention that one of our favorite restaurants in the Strand (the WaterWall, I started going there in middle school, had a killer buffalo burger) is closed, and the FlagShip Hotel that hangs over the ocean is almost destroyed and boarded up. In the photo above you can see the water line on one of the Strand buildings. But it is just incredible how much has been rebuilt. I am so glad I went back and we plan on helping the Galveston economy by visiting more often. :-) Did I mention that Imp and Duke LOVED the ocean?

Here is the newest CoffeeShop action, CoffeeShop Color Tints. It has several tints to choose from (vintage blue and rosy are my favorite), and each layer opacity can be adjusted, and there are built-in layer masks. I even added a contrast boost layer. How many times can I type "layer" in a sentence? If you are not overwhelmed by the name of this action, just remember I spent a few days with a 4 and a 2 year old at the beach and the CoffeeShop Creative Naming Center of my brain is inactive at this time! I need a vacation from my vacation. ;-)

  5. We LOVE Galveston. Did you get a chance to travel down the coast line toward Freeport, or take the ferry to the Bolivar peninsula? We last went to the area in December, and Galveston was pretty well cleaned up, but the drive down Bluewater Hwy between Freeport/Surfside and Galveston was still a huge mess. It is really sad. We visit the area a few times a year and it's very close to our hearts. Galveston has so much character. :-)

(And thanks for another awesome action!)

  6. Your post makes me sad. I grew up in Houston and spent many a sun/sand filled day in Galveston. I know those oaks well, and the oleander, Bishop's Palace, Bolivar Ferry.

I know Galveston will rise again, but I will miss what is gone.

    I love your site.
