CoffeeShop "ColorBar Deluxe" Photoshop/PSE Action!

Happy Sunday!  Today I wanted to post a new action I call "ColorBar Deluxe".  This action is an updated version of my original ColorBar action and adds a drop-shadow effect and resizing feature.

I love using this action to grab colors from images to use in my designs (digital or interior).  It also makes a gorgeous storyboard for your blog or website and a fun way to display your own art.

I used some beautiful images from Jill Wellington (Facebook, Blog, YouTube Videos, Pixabay) on this post.  You can download the bicycle image used in the tutorial below here.

I also have a different ColorBar version here you should check out.

CoffeeShop ColorBar Deluxe Photoshop/PSE Action Tutorial:

1. Open your image.

2. Start the action and drag the crop bars to taste (it will be square).  If you can't see where to drag the bars, Ctrl-0 (zero) to zoom out and repeat to zoom back in.

3.  Add colors to the storyboard.  Zoom out (Ctrl-0) and then click on the image to select your first color. Continue until all five colors are filled in the storyboard.

Photoshop will automatically add a drop-shadow effect, but if you are using PSE you will have to click "Drop Shadow" to select when the effects pane comes up and then adjust the drop-shadow settings to taste.

4.  You can change the storyboard size (preset to 600px wide) if needed.

5.  Your colorbar storyboard is finished! Save as a png file if you are putting it on something other than a white background, otherwise save as a jpg file.

I would love to see your own beautiful ColorBar images on my Facebook page.

Download the free CoffeeShop ColorBar Deluxe action. You can also download it here.

  3. I love this! I have already made 20 -- however, the ctrl-O doesn't seem to work and I only have this super tiny image to work from. I am sure I could be doing something wrong. Please advise.

  4. Sheryl, did you do ctrl-zero?

  5. Yes, I have tried everything I can think of -- hasn't made it any less fun! I even tried some Photoshop shortcuts and I can't get it any larger. I just roll over until I see a color I am looking for. It's that small.

  8. This is so cool. I couldn't get the Control 0 to enlarge either and I use that step all the time. I use PSE 13 and the Effects never came up for me to add shadows. But thank you so much. You have great actions and I'm addicted to playing with them and so much to learn.
