Winter Colds

I missed posting my Friday Photo Bliss photo because we have all been sick with nasty colds/coughs
and I don't have any energy. I am behind in everything (blogging, housework, sleep, etc.) and I am trying to take it easy. I need to get well.

Times like this I miss working outside of the home. BC (before children) I always had tons of sick days because I was hardly ever ill (no germy kids). So when I was sick I stayed home, soaked in hot baths, watched TV, slept, read books, and enjoyed the silence. Sometimes it was a bit of a holiday, to tell the truth.

Now, life is different. When I feel bad I usually have a housefull of sick people to take care of. So my needs come last, as they should. And I know one day my kids will be on their own and I will have peace and quiet once again when I am sick. But I will probably spend that time missing the days when my kids were little and I could take care of them. :-)

The afternoons have been sunny and warm, so we spend a few hours each day outside. Otherwise we would get stir-crazy. I don't know if I could be a stay-at-home homeschooling mom if I lived up north where it was cold and snowy all winter. How do you snowbirds do it? My two active boys would drive me crazy! I love Texas. Give me 100 degree heat over mushy cold snow and ice any day.

I brought my camera out yesterday (the first time in almost a week) and I got a few cute shots of the boys. I am also previewing a new free web action in the image above. It adds a color block on the right side and also automatically adds the text for the watermark and caption and resizes and sharpens for the web. I also have a version for horizontal images coming out. I hope to post these in the next days, if I ever catch up with everything else.

Here is a sample of the horizontal action.  I took this photo today of Imp in the barn.  It is filthy in there, but it makes the absolute best photography studio ever!  I don't even have to add dirt to my boys' faces, it is added naturally to give them that authentic look.  ;-)  This was processed in LR2 with my Vanilla Latte B&W preset, no adjustments made.  I forgot how much I love that preset.

Hope you are having a wonderful weekend!

  4. Praying you all feel better soon Rita! Just so you know, kids up north get stir-crazy too. We just bundle, bundle and bundle some more to play outside. Oh, I think the bundling, plus the cold helps wear them out faster. (:

  8. I know exactly what you mean Rita, my grandson came over a couple of weeks ago with a runny nose, two day later, my nose, throat and a cough lasted me a week. I did not want to do anything. Soup....and more soup with lots of water.

  9. Aww, get better soon Rita...and everyone else. Moms needs always come last, even when we are sick.

Can't wait to try the new actions and I really need to try your LR presets. I just got a copy of LR3, so I need to get busy and start playing.

And as for snow/cold, growing up up north, we went outside and played! We'd wear our snow boots to school and we had recess outside. Now, if it were super cold, we stayed in, but it took a lot to keep us inside. We'd have huge snow piles from when the plows would come thru and we'd tunnel to the neighbors house! We also had basements and mom would lock us down there! Haha...not really, but we always say that...and we had all kinds of toys, games, etc down there, so we did hang out there most of the time.

We have had our share of snow days this year and it's been driving me nuts!

  10. I hope you are drinking a lot of lemon and honey and ginger - my magic cold cure. I have had a house full of sick people too and it is really lingering on this time. The dog is getting really bored of it!!
