If you haven't purchased LightRoom 3 yet, and this and that...

I was on the computer trying to do some Christmas shopping for my nieces and nephews when I noticed that Amazon still has Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3 for an amazing low price (full version only $169 as I am writing this post).  If you haven't used LR before and you have some spare money, now would be a great time to think about buying it.

And if you are new to LightRoom I can't suggest enough to buy or check out the from the library The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3 Book for Digital Photographers.  I skimmed this book in one evening and taught myself the basics of LightRoom. I love Scott Kelby because he explains things in a way that I can understand (simple and straight to the point).

Now on to some "girly" books I love.  I just ordered and received two amazing books, Fa la la la Felt: 45 Handmade Holiday Decorationsand Doodle Stitching: The Motif Collection: 400+ Easy Embroidery Designs. I am trying to do more sewing/embroidery since it is very relaxing. Sometimes I order craft books and find I only like what was shown on the cover, but these two books are simply amazing!

I also found these gorgeous felt Christmas patterns, Walk in the Woods, Snow Day, and Ice Skating Afternoon at Posie.  I have been following Alicia's blog for some time and also have her book Stitched in Time: Memory-Keeping Projects to Sew and Share from the Creator of Posie Gets Cozy (another great craft book).  I am going to have to order at least one of these patterns.  We grew up putting homemade felt ornaments on our tree (the cheap stuff, not the nice wool felt) and they are still going strong decades later.  Felt makes me happy.  :-)

  2. My daughter bought me the Scott Kelby book on Lightroom 3 hoping to get me to buy the software. I found a great deal and now own it but now have to operate my Mac OS from 10.2 to 10.5. sheesh...nothing is ever easy.

  4. I found it for $149 on Amazon a day or two ago. Adobe was also selling it for that price.

  5. I really would love to have Lightroom, but I'm wondering how it can be so much cheaper than on the Adobe website? It's $299 there.

  7. Oh I saw that Lightroom deal...I'm so on the fence here...I have an older version of Aperture that I can upgrade pretty inexpensively...but I'll admit I haven't used that program either. Any thoughts? I've heard so many good things about Lightroom...maybe I'll pull the trigger. I really need a way to organize my photos as they are just such a stinkin' mess right now. I think I've read you can work with RAW files too in LR - Yes? Thanks this may be just the motivation I need! :)

  8. Yay, I got mine! Scott Kelby posted a note about it on FaceBook, I checked it out and got it for $149! Ok with tax and shipping it ended up being $172, but hey, still cheaper even than the original upgrade (which I couldn't get because I didn't own it yet :(
I had been waiting fora deal like this. I had tried the 30-day trial before and really liked it. I'll have to check out Scott's book you mentioned--thanks for the tip.

  10. When I got my LR3, the Kelby book for LR3 wasn't out yet...so I got the LR2 book (since it was my first LR experience at all!). The 2nd book has a lot to offer...but I am definitely going to put Killer LR 3 on my Amazon wish list!

I'm patiently awaiting my husband's anniversary gift...of Photoshop CS5...can't wait!

  11. Hi Rita,
Love your blog, I've been a follower for months now. I haven't really explored your site, I've been using PSE 8 and love your actions. I did buy Lightroom 3 about 5 months ago, and have literally only opened it 3 or 4 times. It's confusing to me. Each time I open it, I'm determined to 'do something' with it, but I always end up going back to PSE 8. I know you can use the two programs together...do you have tutorials on this program?

  12. Leia, I have to confess I HATED LR2 the first weeks I used it. I only purchased it because I was editing weddings for a photographer and couldn't stomach using Photoshop on 500-800 images/wedding.

I bought Scott Kelby's LR2 book and spent one long evening reading it. Then I forced myself to use LR.

After a few weeks I realized it is the best editing program EVER! I would suggest sticking with it and just playing. There are things like the cropping I disliked at first and now think is genius.

Stick with it and get one good book and play. Hopefully you will love it just like me!
