Kids and Computer Don't Mix...

>> Wednesday, June 23, 2010

I wish I liked beer because there is nothing as sad as seeing someone cry over their morning coffee... ;-)

So yesterday, late afternoon, I turned on my computer to check email and then went to do some laundry. I was so proud of myself, actually doing some housework for a change. I came back and both of my boys were playing on the computer like madmen, something they are NEVER supposed to do. In fact, I don't even let them play games or watch videos on it.  I tell them computers are only for adults...

Well, the computer was frozen
and to make a long story short, I am writing this post at my husband's office because they crashed my computer. Yep, I don't know what in the world they did, but my computer is at the Computer Dr. right now because it does not work. And from my description, the Dr. seems to think it is quite serious (disk errors, blue screens, crashing, etc.) and might have to go to the computer hospice... I will know more by tomorrow.

And of course I didn't practice what I preached and hadn't backed up in a while, so who knows what I might have lost. And yes, I am a bit upset at the boys. After they saw their mommy start crying over her dead computer I think they got the message that they did a bad thing. Poor kids, my hot tears of frustration falling on my keyboard did more to convince them of their errors than a screaming or spanking.

So I just wanted to let you guys know that I am around, just sans a computer at home right now. So I won't be so active on my Flickr group and I don't know when I will get a chance to respond to emails.

Once I am back and running I will get my giveaway posted and also my newest actions out there! Luckily I can rewrite them if they are lost. ;-) I just keep telling myself that perhaps I should look at this as a much needed computer break for this stressed-out mom.

LOL! Don't I know it. When my daughter was 14 (she's 20 now), we got a new computer and said she could put the old one in her room. One of my hobbies is genealogy and I had a huge amount of info on the old computer that I was planning on transferring over. I couple months later, I went to get the files and they were all GONE!! She had assumed she could do what she wanted with the old computer and deleted anything she didn't want.

This has happened to me...when my kids were teenagers and we shared one computer (when they really expensive), they loved X-Files and David Duchovny...a big source of viruses from pictures to fan sites. I lost a hard drive in the middle of a graphics design job. After losing another hard drive to their junk joke email viruses we bought an Apple and a back up hard drive. Now they are old enough to have buy their own computers...I love 'em but not on my computer!

(((HUGS))) to you, my dear! I know it's frustrating, but as you mentioned - maybe take it as a "sign" to take a break. We'll still be here when your computer returns & love you all the same!

Ugh, yeah, you're living one of my worst nightmares. My daughter is obsessed with my computer and Im constantly trying to get her to stay away from it to o avail. I'm sure one day I'll be writing a blog post like yours.

I hope you didn't lose anything big and your computer comes back from the Drs in excellent shape.

Oh man, what a bummer! I remember having little kids and them and their friends "painting letters" on my brand new carpet with hot pink nail polish. 3 bottles worth. I just didn't know whether to scream, cry or take a picture. I chose to go upstairs far away from the kids and scream into a pillow. My kids are still here to tell the story, but they got the picture when the carpet got ripped up and replaced and saw me crying over the bill! You gotta love the little stinkers. Good luck to you. thanks for all you do!

I started using Carbonite a backup service. I still back up to hard copies, but this gives me the peace of mind that I am backed up even when I get behind(my computer crashed & it restored flawlessly to the new computer!!)
