Coffee With Morgan: Blue Skies, Nothing but Blue Skies, On My Mind
>> Thursday, April 15, 2010
I am honored to have Morgan step in and teach us something new! This tutorial works great in Photoshop and Photoshop Elements. Once again I am learning something new from Morgan! I can't wait to play with this one. :-)

First open your image. This is a great example of how on cloudy day everything is great but you can miss the beautiful blue sky.
Use your magic wand to select the sky
Once the sky is selected Ctrl+J to put the sky on it's own layer
Then file, place and select the sky you would like to put in
Adjust the size and placement
Once you have it in place Ctrl+G to group it with the blank sky you selected earlier
Often when you select the blank sky it cuts off abruptly, so I like to select the blank sky layer and gaussian blur so that it blends nicely
From there flatten and continue editing as normal :)
Feel free to use the varying skies I have posted under Free Stuff: Sky.
Meet Morgan! I am from a small town in southern Texas, but now live in central Texas, Fort Hood/Killeen area to be more specific. I am a stay-at-home mom and do photography in my spare time. I am married to a wonderful man that I was lucky enough to meet and be able to spend my life with. We have two beautiful children, Payton 4 years old & Amelia 1 year old. The thing I love the most about photography is that you can take an intangible moment in time and make it last forever. I don't have any formal training, I just learn from experimentation and research. Website

Awesome tutorial! Thank you so much!
This also works on blown out skies too :)
Or just changing your sky color, clouds etc.
Just a quick note to let you know that a link to this post will be placed on CraftCrave today [16 Apr 02:00pm GMT]. Thanks, Maria

Hum... this didn't work in cs4. All went well until I hit ctrl g... any suggestions?
alt+ctrl+g in Photoshop.
ctrl+g in elements :)
Bummer, having trouble with this one. The Sky i placed overlaps onto the actual picture. How do you get it to go behind the ground (children ect)
To get it to blend I set it to multiply
