Photography Equipment Must Have!

>> Thursday, March 5, 2009

You know, I am not just a computer geek but I also actually like to be behind the camera.

So how would I live without my:

This little thingy is amazing! If you are like me you have thousands of pictures of your family yet you are in only a fraction of them because EVERYONE asks you to be the photographer because you are the only one who can actually work a camera. Well, a few years ago I invested in my little Canon Wireless Remote Control RC1 for Digital Rebel and it was the cheapest most necessary accessory for my camera ever!

It has two settings. You can have it take the picture in 2 seconds after pushing the little button on the remote, or instantly. It works 16 feet away and is perfect to take those family photos when you have no one there to hold the camera. It is also great for long exposures since you don't have to touch the camera and risk shaking it. This is also great for those self-portraits (when you have actually brushed your hair and are wearing something other than your sweats).

For you Nikon users out there, you can have one too!

And I don't want to forget those Pentax users out there too!

Seriously, if you don't have one of these little guys, get one now. Forget setting your timer on your camera because you know the instant it goes off you will be knocking your son's finger out of his nose or yelling at the cat to not urinate in your herb garden. This little remote will give you peace of mind!!!

So sad. The one for the D300 is $$$$$. :(

MEGAN March 5, 2009 9:08 AM

Awesome! Why didn't I think of that? I have a feeling this post is going to change my life! :) (And is that actually the price? $14.97? No way!)

Oh, and I am going to be launching a website in the coming weeks featuring free blog templates. Would you mind if I linked to you? I want everyone to know about your awesome freebies!

you mean I will actually be in some of the pictures taken from our family camara?? Not sure if that is good or bad :/ lol- Thanks for sharing-lori

I have the Nikon version and it is SO easy. You can easily set a delay, so you click the remote, hide it, pose and wait for the camera to fire. Well worth the money.

I have a Nikon D50 which I love don't get me wrong...but no option for a remote which is a huge bummer. One day I will upgrade my camera and then I will have the freedom of the remote.

Don't forget us Pentax users!

OK... you make me laugh! *Knock your son's hand out of his nose!*

I want you to know that your geek-ism has cost ME $875! You posted a while back and talked about the 50mm lens (Yes, I know that lens is only $85, but the new Rebel camera and assorted accouterments accounts for the other $790!) Let's hear a giant cheer for Amazon that is where I got the Rebel XS + 3 lenses + filters for this amazingly low price tag!

Thank you for sending me over the edge to the *dark side* LOL
Hugs, Joanie

I have this already and I LOVE it. I especially love that you can thread the lid through your camera strap. So now it's ALWAYS with my camera and I can use it wherever I am without having to actually remember to take it with me. :)

Hey Rita, I just wanted to (finally) post a comment to tell you how great your actions and other freebies are. I'm a snap-happy mom like you and just getting into the editing part of photography. I use Elements, so it was a great treat to find your blog! Thanks so much for all you offer on here. I have downloaded and tried all of your actions by now, I think! The new Little Perk is awesome. So anyway, thanks! (And also, I LOVE my remote! Couldn't live without it.)

canadacole March 9, 2009 10:11 AM

You know, I got mine for Christmas and have yet to use it! Bad dobby! I'll get right on it!

JJ Sobey March 9, 2009 11:54 AM

I got one for Christmas, but I haven't yet figured out how to set it to take pictures instantly, instead of the 2 second delay.

I should read the fraking manual.

Rita...you are so right! I got my Canon RC-1 a while back and what a difference it has made....not that I want pix of myself (oh, no!) but for long exposures and stuff. Where else can you get such a bang for the buck?
